Paolo Mieli, guest of honour at fifth "ATG - Cornèr Banca" competition
(15th March 2011)
The prize-giving ceremony in the biennial “ATG - Cornèr Banca” journalism
competition was held this year on Tuesday, 15 March. ATG is the Ticino Journalists’ Association,
and the competition, now in its fifth edition, takes place with our bank’s promotion and support.
Guest of honour for the evening was the Italian journalist, historian and author Paolo Mieli, a former editor of Corriere della Sera and now chairman of RCS Libri, the publishing arm of RCS Media Group.
Interviewed before a packed audience by TV journalist Alessandra Zumthor, Mieli explored topics of current interest, especially the Libyan crisis and the unrest spreading across the Maghreb.
At the end of the interview Marco Blaser, a member of the ATG panel of judges, came forward to open the prize-giving and announce the reasons for the judges’ choices. The prizes awarded were as follows:
– in the “photography” category: Samuel Golay, for a photograph of the wedding of Swiss model Christa Rigozzi; and Gabriele Putzu, for a shot of Swiss cyclist Fabian Cancellara riding to victory at the 2009 World Cycling Championships in Mendrisio
– in the “radio” category: Francesco Maiello, whose work “Africa a Parigi” offers insight into how Africa is lived, listened to and enjoyed in the Parisian suburbs
– in the “television” category: Aldo Sofia and Lorenzo Buccella, who entered their work “Bill Barazetti: il dilemma svizzero”, a documentary on the case of a man thought to have saved hundreds of Jewish children from Prague
– in the “print” category: Francesco Bonsaver, whose reportage “Milano, il ritorno dei caporali” spotlighted the practice of undeclared employment in the Milan building industry
Finally, Paolo Bobbià was highly commended for his reportage “Dalla vita in giù”, published in the newspaper laRegioneTicino.
